Abstract(s)
Contudo, a eficácia
Simplified front-of-pack nutrition labelling (FoPNL) systems aim to increase consumer knowledge and perception of the nutritional quality of foods products as well as encourage the food industry/manufacturers to provide products with better nutritional characteristics, as form of prevention and control of major chronic diseases. There are evidences that FoPNL systems, namely the Nutri-Score (NS), significantly influence consumer decision-making and purchasing behavior. Foods classified as green (letters A or B) are perceived as healthier and their consumption is enhanced. However, the effectiveness of this tool is not globally consensual. In this context, it was carried out the collection of nutritional information together with the NS classification of various food categories available on the Portuguese market and the comparison of the sugars and salt content with the reference values of the Integrated Strategy for Healthy Eating Promotion (EIPAS), based on the assigned NS classification. A total of 268 products with NS from ten different food categories were monitored and 60,1% of them had NS classification A or B (green), but the vast majority (87,0%) of these better classified products did not complied with the EIPAS reference values, when evaluating sugars and salt together. Therefore, NS may be inefficient and potentially misleading in certain foods, being food education campaigns, literacy and incentives to a complete label reading and understanding by consumers essential for making more appropriate food choices.
