Abstract(s)
nacional a dosagem a utilizar.
Rede Médicos-Sentinela.
The occurrence of neural tube defects (NTDs) can be prevented if women take at least 400 μg/day of folic acid star ting before conception and up to 3 months postconception. In Por tugal, the national recommendation on folic acid supplementation does not mention the dosage to be used. A cross-sectional study was developed with data from the Medical-Sentinel Network between Januar y and October 2017 to estimate the frequency of folic acid intake by pregnant women. For each of the variables under study, mean and median values were calculated for the continuous variables and relative frequencies for the categorical variables. In a sample of 446 pregnant women recruited for the study, 90.5% took folic acid in the first trimester and 45.2% of them star ted before conception. Most of the pregnant women (80.0%) repor ted never having forgotten the daily intake of folic acid. These preliminar y results seem to indicate an increased use of folic acid intake before conception in the sur veillance population in the Sentinel Physicians Network.
