Abstract(s)
No
The current knowledge of the Portuguese population on quality schemes for agricultural products and foodstuffs, namely Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) products, Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) and Traditional Speciality Guaranteed (TSG), can be crucial in consumer preferences, and may influence the regional, social and economic sustainability of rural areas. The aims of this study were to assess consumers’ perception concerning these products and designations, as well as consumer habits and reasons of choice. Therefore, a quantitative study was designed, which was based on a questionnaire, applied to 91 individuals in Portugal. It was found that although the majority of respondents recognize the certified products and the symbols associated with this certification, the consumption of these products is low, indicating the low preference for choosing these products regularly. However, a better and more assertive information and dissemination, through appropriate means of advertising and marketing could contribute to the prominence and value of these products considered by most as high quality products.
