Abstract(s)
The identification of protein biomarkers as hallmarks of disease, treatment response or patient’s prognosis holds a great promise for significant advances in personalized medicine. Biomarkers have been also impactful in the field of drug discovery and development. However, despite of the increased number of biomarker studies, only a few of the biomarkers identified have currently implemented into clinical practice. The process of identifying and validating disease specific biomarkers has been quite challenging, requiring large investment of time and resources (Fisler et al 2005; Kearnel et al 2018). To increase the number of clinically validated biomarkers, rather than further increasing the number of biomarker discovery studies, the CliniMARK aimed at creating the best biomarker practice guidelines to establish a coherent biomarker development pipeline from discovery to clinical application in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), as a demonstrator project. CliniMark will gather and classify all known COPD biomarkers and select the appropriate research-grade detection tests. CliniMark will also design technical validation studies and multicenter feasibility studies. (...)
