Abstract(s)
The inclusion of well-being, as a subjective concept, in health understanding and conceptualization, reflects further evidence of its impact on health status, quality of life and longevity. Psychological Flourishing (PF) is a recent concept that describes well-being as a measure of both positive emotions and positive psychological and social functioning. The study aimed to describe the PF in the Portuguese population in 2018, total and stratified by sex, age group, region, schooling, and work situation. The employed data is part of the ECOS study (Em Casa Observamos Saúde - At Home we Observe Health) conducted in 2018. The sample (based on Accommodation Units with fixed and mobile phones) was selected to be representative of the main regions. The final sample corresponds to 1131 individuals. The PF scale indicated that 55.8% of the Portuguese population perceived subjective well-being, as in feeling good about oneself and functioning effectively. Women and individuals in older age groups reported less frequently PF, as well as individuals with less years of schooling and without employment (unemployed, students and domestic). These results suggest specific subgroups with a less positive perception of their well-being.
