Abstract(s)
designadamente as doenças cardiovasculares, obesidade e diabetes.
A recolha
It is worldwide recognized that sugar and salt consumption are directly related to the development of chronic diseases, namely cardiovascular diseases, obesity and diabetes. Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of death worldwide, taking the life of 17.7 million people annually, also representing one of the most relevant causes of morbidity , with the consequent loss of years of healthy life. In this context, to reduce the prevalence of non-communicable diseases related to food, the Integrated Strategy for the Promotion of Healthy Eating (EIPAS) was approved in Portugal, based on the promotion of a healthy eating pattern that, among other objectives, aims at a progressive reduction in the daily consumption of sugar and salt by the general population. The National Institute of Health Dr Ricardo Jorge, as a strategic partner in the implementation of EIPAS, and within the scope of its mission to contribute to gains in public health, monitors data related to the nutritional composition of foodstuffs available in the Portuguese market. The data collection for this work took place in 2019 and is related to the energy value, sugar and salt contents of the food category chips and snacks. The medians obtained for chips were 530kcal/100g for energy, 0.6g/100g for sugar content and 1.3g/100g for salt content. For snacks, the medians were 498kcal/100g for energy, 5.0g/100g for sugar content and 1.5g/100g for salt content.
