Background: Influenza viruses can induce pneumonia and favour bacterial co-infections and secondary bacterial infections, being plausibility that influenza vaccination may also protect against pneumococcal outcomes. The aim of this pilot study was to estimate the influenza vaccine effectiveness (IVE) against hospitalized pneumococcal pneumonia (PP) in elderly using the screening method.
