Abstract(s)
The system Epidemiology and Sur veillance of Injury, Trauma and Accidents (EVITA, in acronym in Por tuguese), created in 2000 by the former National Health Obser vatory, currently Depar tment of Epidemiology, collects data on home and leisure accidents (HLA) in a sample of hospital emergency rooms via the informatic platform SONHO. We conducted a descriptive study using data collected by EVITA between January 2013 to December 2015. During this period 26 681 HLA were registered, and information on the referral af ter being assisted in emergency ser vices members comprising the network EVITA was available for 26 162 cases. Of these, 65,0% were referred to the "Unreferenced exterior, 24,7% to "Referral for consultation", 5,4% have had need of hospitalization and 0,03% were deaths. In general, regardless of the underlying lesion mechanism, most victims were discharged from hospital without the need for referral for follow-up or any type of care. Of notice are 40,6% HLA cases caused by "Burn" with need of referral for fur ther clinical evaluation. In all age groups a low propor tion of cases led to hospitalization but from the age group 45 to 54 years onwards the percentage of hospital admissions increases, with the highest value in the age-group with 75 and over (16,5%).
