Abstract(s)
almoço e barras de cereais. Os valores médios obtidos para os iogurtes foram: valor energético – 81 kcal/100 g; lípidos – 2,4 g/100 g; ácidos gordos saturados – 1,5 g/100 g; hidratos de carbono – 10,5 g/100 g;
– 7,1 g/100 g; proteínas – 8,9 g/100 g; sal – 0,46 g/100 g. Para as barras
de cereais, as médias obtidas foram: valor energético – 425 kcal/100 g;
lípidos – 15,6 g/100 g; ácidos gordos saturados – 5,8 g/100 g; hidratos
de carbono – 59,7 g/100 g; açúcares – 24,5 g/100 g; fibras – 6,7 g/100 g;
abaixo do máximo desejável.
Obesity is the most prevalent nutritional disease worldwide and has, in more than 96% of cases, behavioral factors, namely obesogenic lifestyles. In 2019, around 29.6% and 12% of Portuguese children were overweight and obese, respectively, according to the European Child Nutrition Surveillance System Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative (COSI). Portugal instituted the Integrated Strategy for the Promotion of Healthy Eating (EIPAS), based on the promotion of a healthy eating pattern, with a view to progressively reducing the population's daily consumption of sugar and salt. In 2021, the National Institute of Health Doutor Ricardo Jorge monitored data on the nutritional composition of ready-to-eat foods, relevant for school-age children, available on the Portuguese market: yoghurts, breakfast cereals and cereal bars. The average values obtained for yoghurts were: energy value – 81 kcal/100 g; lipids – 2.4 g/100 g; saturated fatty acids – 1.5 g/100 g; carbohydrates – 10.5 g/100 g; sugars – 9.9 g/100 g; proteins – 3.8 g/100 g; salt – 0.14 g/ 100 g. For breakfast cereals, the means were: energy value – 386 kcal/100 g; lipids – 7.3 g/100 g; saturated fatty acids – 2.0 g/100 g; carbohydrates – 67.4 g/100 g; sugars – 18.8 g/100 g; fibers – 7.1 g/100 g; proteins – 8.9 g/100 g; salt – 0.46 g/100 g. For cereal bars, the averages obtained were: energy value – 425 kcal/100 g; lipids – 15.6 g/100 g; saturated fatty acids – 5.8 g/100 g; carbohydrates – 59.7 g/100 g; sugars – 24.5 g/100 g; fibers – 6.7 g/100 g; proteins – 8.6 g/100 g; salt – 0.45 g/100 g. Comparing with the targets set by EIPAS, it was found that 24% of yoghurts, 10% of breakfast cereals and 5% of cereal bars have sugar levels equal to or lower than recommended and that 49% and 33% of breakfast cereals and cereal bars, respectively, have salt levels below the desirable maximum.
